Michael O’Brien MP, Member for Malvern, today acknowledged the results of the 2012 RACV RedSpot survey in which the intersection at Burke Road and Wills Street, Glen Iris was named the fifth worst congested road location in the state.
The level crossing at Gardiner Railway Station is known for significant frustration to commuters during peak hour, with six major arterial road approaches to the intersection, Mr O’Brien noted.
“This congestion is why the Coalition Government has pledged to begin planning for the grade separation at Gardiner Station,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The Coalition Government’s $2.5 million election commitment is the first step to relieving congestion at this intersection,”
“Unfortunately, the Federal Government declined to allocate Victoria any funding in the most recent round of Infrastructure Australia funding to assist with the grade separation of level crossings.”
“The Coalition Government will continue to seek the support needed to fix this congestion,” Mr O’Brien said.
