Local charities in Malvern can now apply for Coalition Government grants to assist with the disposal of illegally dumped items Michael O’Brien MP, Member for Malvern announced.
Funding of $1.5 million will be provided to charitable recyclers for landfill levy relief in order to assist with the disposal of unsellable waste and to prevent illegal dumping at their premises.
“Charities are often dumped with broken, old or unusable items alongside donations, burdening them with unnecessary waste removal costs,” Mr O’Brien said.
“People would be surprised at the costs incurred that illegal dumpers are placing on charitable organisations. Leaving unusable items outside charity op-shops is not donating, but dumping.”
The Coalition Government funding is provided as part of a partnership with the National Association for Charitable Recycling Organisations (NACRO), which also includes $500, 000 for the prevention of illegal dumping.
Any NACRO charities seeking more information and an application form can visit www.nacro.org.au before applications close on 12 October 2012.
