A new round of grants is available for groups and organisations to support and promote mental health initiatives for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex young people in local communities.
Applications are open for the third round of Healthy, Equal, Youth (HEY) grants, which deliver new and innovative approaches to address and support the mental health of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex (GLBTI) young people.
Funded as part of a $4 million Coalition election commitment, the first two rounds of HEY grants saw 15 organisations share in more than $380,000 to provide a diverse range of programs.
Under the latest round, grants of up to $40,000 are available to organisations that:
develop new ways of engaging young people in the design and delivery of a range of initiatives such as social support groups and networks;
promote mainstream anti-homophobia, anti-transphobia and diversity campaigns and programs;
provide youth leadership, mentoring and peer education opportunities; and
enhance the capacity of the youth, health and community sectors to better respond to the needs of GLBTI young people and challenge discriminatory environments.
Grant applications close on 31 July 2013 and all inquiries should be directed to the grants administrator at the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria, via email firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone (03) 9267 3799.
