Treasurer and Member for Malvern Michael O’Brien joined Education Minister Martin Dixon today to announce $3.9 million in capital and maintenance funding for Malvern Primary School as part of the 2014-15 State Budget.

The announcement is in addition to funding of $100,000 announced last year for electrical upgrades and around $162,000 in maintenance funding since the Coalition Government came to office in 2010.

“I am delighted to be announcing funding that will enable Malvern Primary School to refurbish the school’s historic buildings, as well as delivering modern teaching and learning spaces,” Mr O’Brien said.

“I have worked closely with the local school community, including Principal Richard Bennetts and School Council President Jodi Fullarton-Healey to make the case for major upgrades at this large and vibrant school.

“I am delighted that the Coalition Government has delivered for the students, families and staff of Malvern Primary School,” Mr O’Brien said.

Education Minister Martin Dixon agreed that funding to refurbish Malvern Primary School would be of great benefit to students.

“The Coalition Government is committed to building better learning environments for Victorian students and I’m very pleased to announce funding of $3.9 million for students and teachers at Malvern Primary School and the Malvern community,” Mr Dixon said.

“The school community has the flexibility to determine how best to use this funding to improve student learning, in line with the Coalition Government’s commitment to support local decision making.”

The Victorian Auditor-General agreed that the Coalition Government’s independent and comprehensive statewide maintenance audit of more than 1,500 government schools provided the first evidence-based picture of Victorian school maintenance needs.

“The Coalition Government has invested $1.1 billion in school capital since 2011, including more than $460 million in new schools, further stages, relocatable classrooms and land acquisition,” Mr Dixon said.
