14 days on and Labor’s Big Battery blaze leaves Victoria at risk of big summer blackout

Today marks two weeks since the Andrews Labor Government’s flagship big battery went up in flames.

In the absence of any clear and decisive response from Labor’s Energy Minister, Lily D’Ambrosio, the Liberal Nationals applaud the leadership shown by Marnie Williams – Commissioner and Chairperson of Energy Safe Victoria.

Ms. Williams has pledged to undertake a “complete and thorough” investigation and publicise learnings to come from this incident.

By contrast, Lily D’Ambrosio has failed to guarantee that all investigation reports will be publicly released and if the Big Battery will be back online in time for summer.

The Liberal Nationals are calling on the Andrews Labor Government to guarantee that repairs and investigations into the big battery blaze will be finalised prior to the onset of summer.

With reports widely circulating that Victoria’s energy supply is likely to be on a knife’s edge during this year’s warmer months, the Andrews Labor Government must commit to efficiently identifying and resolving problems with our energy supply.

The Liberal Nationals understand that batteries have a critical role to play in our renewable future, but a green energy transition is more than simply cutting ribbons on projects. Daniel Andrews and his Energy Minister must guarantee transparency and openness in this process so that Victorians can have trust that batteries are safe and reliable.

The Andrews Labor Government is guilty of having no plan for Victoria’s renewable energy transition, instead only caring about its own PR and spin.

Only the Liberal Nationals can provide Victoria with affordable, reliable, and renewable energy – sustainably.
