Andrews Labor Government leaves hundreds without power as connection chaos reigns

Energy disputes involving vulnerable Victorians left without power supply have skyrocketed under the Andrews Labor Government’s watch.

Today’s Energy and Water Ombudsman Victoria (EWOV) data reveals that the number of cases involving issues with the supply of energy to Victorian homes and businesses in the second quarter of 2021 have ballooned by a whopping 77 per cent on first quarter results.

Blaming this blow-out on recent storms is just not good enough. Five years ago, the Andrews Labor Government committed to “developing a diverse and distributed energy system that provides energy security in the face of extreme weather events”. The Andrews Labor Government has failed to deliver on that promise and vulnerable Victorians are paying the price.

EWOV data also reveals that cases involving credit collection are up by a massive 22 per cent on the previous quarter.

Labor Ministers and their cashed-up bureaucrats have no reason not to pay their power bills on time, but Victoria’s vulnerable casual workers have lost up to $6,000 in earnings over the last three months alone.

The Liberal Nationals have repeatedly called for the $250 Power Saving Bonus to be extended to Victoria’s casual workforce. Daniel Andrews’ damning silence shows that Labor is no longer on the side of the worker and has no plan to support vulnerable Victorians.

Only the Liberal Nationals will ensure that every Victorian has access to reliable and affordable power.
