With less than one week until Remembrance Day, Daniel Andrews should revisit the Andrews Labor Government’s advice of only allowing 10 people to be at services – particularly in rural and regional Victoria.
Up to 50 people are currently allowed to attend outdoor funerals in rural areas and there are growing calls for similar restrictions to be applied to Remembrance Day services, which are much shorter ceremonies.
Every year at 11am on November 11, we remember those men and women who have died or suffered in all wars, conflicts and peace keeping operations. Many gather at their local Cenotaph or war cemetery for a service.
This year’s Remembrance Day holds special significance as it marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
It was a time when the world not only welcomed peace with great celebration, but experienced a sombreness also for the many thousands who never returned.
By aligning with the Coronavirus restrictions already in place for funerals, Remembrance Day services in country areas should be allowed to proceed along those same guidelines.
