Daniel Andrews’ freedom from information continues

The Liberal Nationals are again at VCAT today fighting the secretive Andrews Labor Government and its refusal to release to the community key documents associated with the Pakenham level crossing removals.

Already billions of dollars over budget and plagued with management issues, the Level Crossing Removal Program has twice been reviewed by the Auditor-General, highlighting many failures in process and contract execution.

The refusal to provide to the Opposition the documents ordered by OVIC is deeply troubling and a matter that will be considered by VCAT today.

The community has a right to transparency and accountability but yet again the Andrews Labor Government is snubbing its nose at both taxpayers and commuters.

If the Andrews Labor Government has nothing to fear, it should have nothing to hide. So, why the need to go to VCAT to get the advice and information central to the removal of these level crossings, all the while spending tens of thousands of taxpayers’ dollars on expensive lawyers to keep secret these important documents?
