Desal keeping water bills up when Victorians can least afford it

The Andrews Government’s decision to order 125GL of desal water this year means Victorians will miss out on a reduction in water bills at a time when Victorians need it most.

As we take extreme action to combat the spread of COVID-19, every dollar we can keep in Victorians’ pocket will make a difference.

Tens of thousands of Victorians lost their jobs this week and small businesses had no choice but to close their doors leaving many unsure how they will continue to pay the bills.

The Andrews Government should be doing everything it can to reduce the pressure on Victorian households.

With unprecedented pressure on households and businesses, the Minister must reconsider whether this water order is in Victorians’ best interests or if it’s just another attempt to justify the desal plant.
