Fair Work Ombudsman acts on hotel quarantine wage theft scandal

The Liberal Nationals wrote to the Fair Work Ombudsman, Ms Sandra Parker PSM, on 15 July requesting she undertake an investigation into the wide spread allegations of wage underpayment, sham contracting and other illegal behaviour associated with the deployment of security guards as part of the hotel quarantine fiasco.

The Ombudsman has responded to the Liberal Nationals, stating a thorough investigation will now take place.

Daniel Andrews and Labor pretend to stand up for workers but their hotel quarantine program is rife with allegations of worker underpayment and sham contracting.

Comments attributable to Shadow Attorney-General, Edward O’Donohue:

“This Fair Work Ombudsman investigation further highlights just how badly Daniel Andrews botched his hotel quarantine program.

“While Daniel Andrews hides behind a $3 million inquiry and refuses to answer any questions about this fiasco, this investigation will shine a light on how Labor’s shocking hotel quarantine program put so many people at risk.”

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations, Nick Wakeling:

“This investigation will uncover the truth about Labor’s hypocrisy on workers’ rights.

“Thankfully the Federal Fair Work Ombudsman is prepared to investigate these allegations where Daniel Andrews and the union movement have failed.”
