Labor causes mass confusion over fire preparation

Daniel Andrews and Labor have caused mass confusion over who and when Victorians can travel to prepare for the upcoming bushfire season.

Just yesterday, at his press conference, Daniel Andrews said that Victorians would have to wait for councils to issue fire prevention notices before they could travel to prepare their properties for the fire season.

Now, this morning, Labor’s Emergency Services Minister has said that local councils will now be responsible for issuing permission for Victorians to undertake fire preparation work.

This permission will need to be sought for each and every property that residents of Melbourne need to travel to, to prepare for the upcoming fire season.

Why on earth would Labor think creating a new bureaucracy in local councils will help protect properties under threat of bushfires?

Parts of Victoria have already, today, entered the Fire Danger Period and yet Labor’s new fire preparation permit system won’t be up and running until Thursday.

Today marks the beginning of Fire Action Week but it would appear Labor is just making it harder for Victorians to take action to prepare for the upcoming fire season.

The amount of planned burns and other fuel reduction work has already been reduced dramatically across Victoria this year due to Labor’s relentless war on the CFA.

Now, it appears that Daniel Andrews is just making it harder for Victorians to protect their properties from the threat of bushfire.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Nick Wakeling:

“How on earth can Victorians know what they can do to prepare for the fire season when even the Premier himself doesn’t know?

“Daniel Andrews simply has not learnt the lessons of our last fire season.

“This mixed messaging from Daniel Andrews is just causing mass confusion and placing lives and property at risk.

“Daniel Andrews must allow Victorians to protect their properties from bushfire without having to navigate a bureaucratic minefield.”
