Labor forcing returned travellers to live in putrid conditions

Daniel Andrews is neglecting families returning to Australia by making them stay in filthy, bedbug-infested hotel rooms.

Despite instructions from the government about the importance of routine cleaning and hygiene, families are being placed into dirty and infested hotel rooms.

Rosie, a mother stuck in a disgusting bedbug infested hotel with her children had been promised to be moved to another hotel because the infestation was so bad.

This decision was then reversed, with the Andrews Labor Government refusing to relocate the family as previously agreed.  But this afternoon following media attention, they’re finally being moved.

This isn’t the first time the hotel quarantine program has let down Australians.  Concerns about the conditions returned travellers are kept in have previously been raised with the case of a sick and elderly woman being kept in squalid conditions.

It comes as COVID-19 numbers continue to rise.  Of the 75 cases today reported in Victoria, three are positive tests involving security guards who were linked to the cluster at the Stamford Plaza Hotel, bringing that total to 23.   The hotel quarantine program has been plagued with problems and Daniel Andrews needs to fix it as a matter of urgency.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier:

“It’s appalling that Daniel Andrews is forcing families to live in these disgusting conditions.

“We support returned travellers being quarantined but it’s unacceptable for Daniel Andrews to force families to live in these putrid conditions.

“Victorians can’t have faith in Daniel Andrews ability to manage this deadly pandemic if he can’t even manage hotel quarantine.

“Daniel Andrews must immediately fix this horrible situation and ensure the health and welfare of returned travellers won’t be compromised.”
