A new intermodal freight terminal will be a win-win for all Victorians and the Andrews Labor Government should confirm its commitment to the project in next week’s State Budget.
The new terminal will connect Victoria to Inland Rail, create thousands of new jobs, take trucks off local roads and help get our world class Victorian products to international markets quickly and cost effectively.
The Federal Government has committed $2 billion to the project and now the Andrews Labor Government should follow suit and get this terminal built.
Labor is quick to talk up its support of freight rail, but the reality is everything they have touched in the area is a mess – the Port Rail Shuttle program has been idle throughout their time in government, there’s no long term security for the vital Mode Shift Incentive Scheme and the Murray Basin Rail Project is half finished and completely botched.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Ports and Freight, Roma Britnell:
“This intermodal terminal is vital to ensure Victorian producers can have quick and efficient access to the Inland Rail project but will also improve the liveability and opportunities across the state.
“The Andrews Labor Government should match the Federal Government’s contribution to get this terminal built because it makes perfect sense. It will create thousands of jobs, take more trucks off the roads and help move Victoria’s world class produce to markets quickly and efficiently.
“Making a funding contribution in next week’s budget will show that Labor is more than just talk when it comes to rail freight, because their track record in the area is less than impressive so far.”
