Labor still hasn’t learnt from mistakes of bungled hotel quarantine program

Reports this morning that security guards were being used in “revamped” quarantine hotels, while working in hospitals, are beyond belief.

The ABC detailed how a Spotless worker has revealed former bouncers with little experience were given jobs leading “security” teams in quarantine facilities.  Further, security staff were working at various Alfred hospital sites within days of shifts at hot hotels, where COVID-19 positive cases are housed.

Last week media reports prompted the government to stand down private security guards mid-shift and replace them with police.  Daniel Andrews vigorously denied claims that Spotless staff were providing security.

Today’s revelations have again cast doubt on what the Premier has told Victorians.

The Liberal Nationals are calling for the truth.  The Andrews Labor Government must explain whether security guards were working in hot hotels, and if they were working between hotels and different hospital locations.

Victorians don’t have confidence in the Andrews Labor Government to fix the program which led to our second wave.  All the sacrifices Victorians have made are being put at risk by Daniel Andrews.

Comments attributable to Shadow Attorney-General, Edward O’Donohue:

“Victorians are angry and disappointed that the government still hasn’t learnt from its mistakes.  Mistakes which have led to over 780 deaths and harsh lockdowns which have destroyed livelihoods.

“How can it be that months after the hotel quarantine fiasco was first uncovered, the Andrews Labor Government still had security guards working in hot hotels?

“Daniel Andrews needs to tell suffering Victorians the truth.”
