Labor’s ‘Belt and Road’ deal is all one-way traffic

The decision of the Chinese Government to smash Victorian farmers with 80 per cent tariffs on barley shows the utter failure of Daniel Andrews’ ‘Belt and Road’ deal with Beijing.

When it comes to protecting Victorian jobs, Andrews’ deal with Beijing clearly isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.

‘Belt and Road’ is all one-way traffic – Chinese companies get paid to build Victorian infrastructure while Victorian farmers get smashed by Chinese Government barley tariffs.

Despite the deal claiming to promote “trade development and market access…especially for agricultural products”, it has failed to protect Victorian farmers from punitive Chinese Government tariffs.

The Andrews Labor Government should spend more time getting Victoria back to work and less time making excuses for Chinese Government attacks on Victorian jobs.
