Lack of transparency – Victorians deserve better

Victoria’s latest quarterly health services and ambulance quarterly performance data are now overdue for publication.

Importantly, these quarterly figures allow Victorians an insight into the elective surgery waitlists, ambulance transfer times and overall hospital admission statistics amongst many other key health performance indicators.

In a year where Victoria has faced its most significant health crisis, the timely and accurate reporting of data is vital.

Victorians and our health services need to be equipped with the information required to effectively confront these ongoing challenges, which have been exacerbated by the Andrews Labor Government’s incompetent response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The failure to release this data is just another black mark for transparency and accountability from the Andrews Labor Government.

This is concerning for the tens of thousands of Victorians already languishing on the elective surgery waitlists, which were at record highs before the suspension of elective surgeries in April.

These are individuals who have needlessly had to endure pain and suffering during the lockdown period and have had their health needs further compromised.

The Liberal Nationals called on the Labor Government to return the elective surgery waitlist to 39,000 by 1 January 2022 in our Back to Work plan, released this week.

Additionally, data regarding access to dental services must also be released promptly as too many Victorians requiring dental care are waiting for months and months.

The Liberal Nationals call on the Andrews Labor Government to face up to Victorians and release this important and overdue data.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier:

“The secrecy and arrogance of the Andrews Labor Government is again on display with its failure to release this critical data.

“The least Daniel Andrews could do for the tens of thousands of Victorians on waitlists is be open and transparent.

“Victorians awaiting critical healthcare deserve better than to be totally ignored by this Labor government that continues to fail them.”
