Liberal Nationals call for the immediate extension of the $250 Power Saving Bonus to Victorian casual workers

The Liberal Nationals are demanding an immediate extension of the $250 Power Saving Bonus to the households of our state’s casual workers to help ease the burden of the Andrews Labor Government’s fourth lockdown.

As many as 500,000 working Victorians are some of the hardest hit by Labor’s fourth lockdown – many of them reliant on shift-to-shift work and without paid leave entitlements.

Worse, they have no idea of when they’ll be allowed to return to their jobs.

They – and their families – are left to anxiously wait for every new press conference, media release, and health directive to find out if the Andrews Labor Government will let them return to work and allow them to earn a living.

Extending the $250 bonus payment would enable the average household to meet its energy costs for up to six weeks – providing an important safety net at a time when Labor has no plan to release Victorians from their lockdown.

Vulnerable workers have been asked to do their bit to ‘help us keep apart’. It’s only fair that, as winter approaches, the Andrews Labor Government does its bit to help those workers keep their lights on and keep their homes heated as Victorians are once again confined to their homes.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Energy and Renewables, Brad Rowswell:

“The Government says we need this circuit breaker to get on top of contact tracing but it doesn’t have a plan to help vulnerable Victorian workers get on top of their mounting energy bills.

“Hundreds of thousands of households affected by this lockdown are spending every second thinking about how they can make their money stretch, they don’t need the added anxiety of winter energy bills.

“The Liberal Nationals’ appeal for this payment extension will provide a direct and targeted form of support to households where casual workers are finding it hard to make ends meet.”
