Liberal Nationals call for urgent action to speed up mRNA vaccine manufacturing in Victoria

Vaccination is our way out of the COVID crisis, and the Andrews Government desperately needs a plan to accelerate the mass manufacturing mRNA vaccines in the state.

Here in Victoria, we could make enough mRNA vaccines to protect the entire population at short notice. Why the hold up?

Under plans by bio-tech giant CSL, Melbourne can host two new centres designed to produce at least 50 million doses within 16 weeks.

The Government needs to adopt the plan and do it quickly – rather than relying on overseas production.

Vaccination is the key to opening up big events, and getting kids back to schools.

The Andrews Government’s vaccination targets remain too modest as lockdown continues to bite in Victoria.

This project must be fast tracked, to help lift numbers.

Manufacturing has taken a hit under the Andrews Government and this proposed world class facility would help us regain some ground.

It would be an important plank in getting Victoria back to the top, where it belongs.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier:

“The Andrews Government must stop dragging its feet on mRNA vaccine production and seize the opportunity.

“Melbourne is a world leader in medical research & technology and has the capability.
