The Liberal Nationals are backing calls by Victorians for buildings and landmarks to be lit up in blue as a mark of respect for the four police officers killed in the line of duty.
Many Melbourne landmarks and buildings are routinely themed with different colours to mark significant occasions or to mark awareness and we ask that all levels of governments and institutions light up their buildings in blue out of respect.
The Parliament of Victoria is the heart of Victoria’s democracy and should be lit up in blue to pay tribute to the brave men and women of Victoria Police who help to safeguard our rights and liberties.
Comments attributable to the Leader of the Opposition, Michael O’Brien:
“Lighting up our buildings and landmarks in blue is a way we can all show our support to all Victoria Police men and women.
“We want each and every one of our Police Force, their friends and their families to know that we have their back.”
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Police, David Southwick:
“My heart breaks for all Victoria Police members who are feeling this tragic loss and this is a small way we can all show our appreciation.
“Victorians want to show the world just how much we love, value and respect the very people who protect us.”
