Statement from Shadow Attorney-General Michael O’Brien
“The release of Tony Mokbel is a direct consequence of the catastrophic failures exposed by the Lawyer X scandal; a scandal that occurred on Labor’s watch and which has been covered up by Labor since.
“The Labor Government’s refusal to give Justice Nettle – the Special Investigator – power to lay charges has meant that nobody responsible for this scandal has been held accountable.
“The High Court condemned this scandal as ‘reprehensible conduct’ yet Labor has covered for those responsible.
“This is what happens when justice is compromised, and the rule of law is trampled by those sworn to uphold it.
“Victorians deserve accountability—not more excuses and cover ups from this Labor Government.”
