Still no guarantee on Benalla concrete jobs

The Andrews Labor Government has refused to guarantee there won’t be further job losses at the Benalla concrete plant as a result of its failed management of the West Gate Tunnel Project.

On Friday, 60 workers at the Benalla concrete plant will lose their jobs because of ‘the current PFAS situation on the West Gate Tunnel Project and the associated delays in the tunnelling works’.

Today in State Parliament, Transport Infrastructure Minister Jacinta Allan arrogantly denied to guarantee workers will get their jobs back, despite the Andrews Government using job creation as a selling point for the Project.

Deputy Leader of The Nationals and Member for Euroa Steph Ryan said loss of the jobs would hit the community hard.

“We were promised that these jobs were secure,” Ms Ryan said.

“I have always supported the construction of the Benalla concrete facility, but we have also had concerns from the beginning about Labor’s failure to do due diligence on the West Gate Tunnel project.

“Loss of these jobs shows the Andrews Government has completely failed to deliver its promise.”

The government has previously told the Benalla community these jobs were secure because the project had “been through the most comprehensive planning and environmental assessment process ever conducted’.
