Transport Minister Ben Carroll admits Andrews Labor Government’s failing on transport QR codes

At the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee today, Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll was forced to admit that a serious loophole exists on public transport, with no COVID-19 QR codes across the system.

He trumpeted the existence of QR codes to spruik the Andrews Labor Government’s transport construction, but appeared ignorant of the benefits of QR codes recording commuter movements to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Ben Carroll said the Chief Health Officer and public health advice had not directed that QR codes be installed on public transport. He should release that written advice today, including all briefs he has in his possession on tracking COVID-19 risks on public transport.

The Andrews Labor Government’s QR code system and contact tracing is ramshackle with more holes than Swiss cheese. Public transport is just the latest to be exposed.

Comments attributable to the Shadow Minister for Public Transport (Metropolitan), David Davis:

“You can look at the big build spruiking QR code but not the Service Victoria COVID public health QR codes. No wonder there are holes in our contact tracing.

“As usual, the Andrews Labor Government hasn’t got its own systems in place, preferring instead to clobber businesses.”
