Victoria is broken

Reports today that some houses may not have power restored for up to four more days is a situation that is completely unacceptable.

Once again Premier Daniel Andrews has let us down, leaving residents of 110,000 homes unable turn on the lights or switch on the heater.

This comes on top of the failure of water supply infrastructure which has led to thousands of people being forced to boil their water because our supply has been contaminated.

Daniel Andrews has continuously said that his whole focus is on defeating the coronavirus. Perhaps he could also turn his attention to ensuring we also have power and fresh water. Those things seem pretty important too.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Energy and Renewables, Ryan Smith:

“With both responsible ministers silent, Daniel Andrews needs to immediately reassure Melbournians that their power will be restored and their water will be made safe. These are basic functions of government that Daniel Andrews has failed to deliver.

“How did we get to the point where the lucky ones are counted as those who are still able to boil a kettle so they can drink uncontaminated water?  The Andrews Labor Government needs to ensure Victorians have their basic needs met, especially during lockdown.

“We would hate for things to get so bad that he has to set up another inquiry.”
