About 2.7 million Victorians with private health hospital cover have been pushed aside today by Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos.
With the nationwide freeze on elective surgeries being lifted next week, Victorians with private health cover were left none the wiser by the State Government on whether they would be able to have elective surgery in private hospitals in the foreseeable future.
Throughout the press conference, the Minister refused to provide clear advice for Victorians on both public and private waiting lists.
The Minister even refused to answer a journalist’s question on whether she was penalising Victorians with private hospital cover for not being on a public waiting list.
Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, as of December 2019, there were 50,697 Victorians on the public hospital waiting list, a 27.2% blowout in the six months from July 2019.
