Victoria’s elective surgery wait list had blown out past record levels in March and is now worse than ever.
On top of this other Victorians are stuck on the ‘hidden waitlist’ having deferred treatment due to government COVID restrictions.
The increasing backlog of elective surgery will only lead to a larger and more unmanageable waitlist. This will put further strain on Victoria’s health services and possibly lead to avoidable long term health problems or even premature death.
As part of our positive Back to Work plan, the Liberal Nationals have a 4-point plan to reduce Victoria’s healthcare wait lists. This includes greater transparency for referral to treatment times. This way all Victorians would know how long they will actually be waiting for elective surgery.
