Reports today have indicated that ADF personnel destined to support hotel quarantine have not arrived in Victoria or received training, just 72 hours from international arrivals landing in Victoria.
These concerning reports come despite the Minister responsible for the relaunched hotel quarantine program, Lisa Neville, confirming ADF personnel would be arriving by Thursday 3rd December.
It also remains unclear as to whether a formal request for ADF personnel has been made by the Andrews Government or how many ADF personnel have been requested.
With Victorians still scarred from Labor’s first botched attempt at hotel quarantine and Daniel Andrews having had months to get this program right – it beggars belief that such basic questions around ADF involvement remain unclear.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Police and Community Safety, David Southwick:
“With little more than 48 hours from Labor’s second hotel quarantine program going live, confusion reigns over the arrival of ADF support, training and if a formal request has even been made.
“Daniel Andrews has had months to get his revamped hotel quarantine program right, yet is still scrambling just days from arrivals landing.
“With Labor’s first hotel quarantine program resulting in 801 deaths and countless economic and social harms, Victorians simply cannot afford this to go wrong again.”
