Confirmation that not a single invoice has been issued to Victorian returned travellers is the latest failure of Daniel Andrews’ botched hotel quarantine program.
Despite more than 10 weeks passing since the recommencement of hotel quarantine and more than 16,000 guests entering the program, not a single invoice has been issued.
Fees for hotel quarantine were always an afterthought for the Andrews Labor Government, who only passed legislation to enable the charging of fees after the first returned travellers had arrived.
This failure is the latest in a growing list of basic and dangerous errors which continue to occur in Labor’s hotel quarantine program, including:
- a member of the public being able to enter and move through a quarantine facility without being told to sign in, isolate or take a test,
- confirmation that staff and guests within hotel quarantine facilities are failing to follow healthcare infection control standards,
- a man confirming he was approved multiple times to use a nebuliser – despite government claims he was informed this device was not allowed, and;
- a staff member not wearing a mask whilst working at the Intercontinental on Collins.
It is now clear Daniel Andrews has failed to learn the lessons of his catastrophic first hotel quarantine program and exposed taxpayers to picking up the bill for yet another quarantine failure.
