Today’s announcement from Labor’s Roads Minister that work is only now just starting on putting Victoria’s learner’s permit test online is six months too late.
The Andrews Labor Government is letting down more than 200,000 young Victorians who are waiting to get their licence.
Prospective drivers along with the Liberal Nationals have been calling for an online test since March.
Labor should have been planning on delivering an online test six months ago, but instead it sat on its hands and did nothing.
Today’s announcement is cold comfort for Victorians who have waited since March to get their licence. This is simply not good enough.
The technology exists now and industry experts have indicated a secure, online test could be implemented within weeks.
It’s no wonder Victorians have lost confidence in the Andrews Labor Government’s ability to govern our state. The Roads Minister has been asleep at the wheel when it comes to getting Victoria’s licencing system into the digital age.

“It is simply not good enough that Labor’s Roads Minister is now walking away from the promise he made to deliver an online test soon. Young prospective drivers have waited long enough.
“Labor’s Road’s Minister must commit to a definite timeframe of weeks. Stating ‘early next year’ is simply not good enough.
“After all the half-truths and spin, young Victorians have been abandoned by Labor. The Andrews Labor Government is asleep at the wheel.”
