Today’s release of the Productivity Commissions Report on Government Services (RoGS) data confirms the community safety of Victorians continues to deteriorate under the Andrews Labor Government.
The RoGS data has revealed:
- Fewer than one in two Victorians (49.1 per cent) feel safe walking along in their neighbourhood at night.
- Victoria has the equal lowest level of feelings of safety within their own homes at night.
- More than one in four commuters (26 per cent) don’t feel safe on public transport at night.
- Victoria has the highest rate of victims of armed and unarmed robberies in the nation.
- Only 13.7 per cent of Victorian indigenous youth offenders are provided a youth diversion, compared to a national average of 26.8 per cent.
- Only 1 in 5 (20 per cent) of Victorian youth offenders are provided a youth diversion, compared to more than 3 in 5 (66 per cent) in NSW.
- Victoria is leading the country in the number of traffic accident hospitalisations. Between 2015/16 and 2018/19, NSW has decreased 11.73 per cent while Victoria has increased 19.27 per cent.
This data follows the latest release from Victoria’s independent crime statistics agency, which confirmed total recorded offences, family violence and youth crime have all reached record highs despite ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.
It is now clear that community safety has become yet another victim of Daniel Andrews’ botched COVID-19 response, leaving Victorians to fend for themselves.

“Daniel Andrews has dropped the ball on community safety and must prioritise frontline policing to boost perceptions of safety and drive down crime.
“With fewer police and PSO’s in local communities and crime continuing to rise despite COVID lockdowns, is it any wonder why Victorians perceptions of safety are lagging the nation?
“When every other state is so far ahead on delivering diversions for young offenders, it’s clear Labor is missing in action on youth offending and has no plan to tackle the spike in crime rates.”
