Daniel Andrews fights release of secret curfew document

Daniel Andrews’ own Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) is fighting the release of the sole briefing document which is claimed to have given Andrews advice to lock Victorians in their homes after 8pm last year through a curfew.

Daniel Andrews locked down five and a half million Melbournians, but his department has only one document in its possession justifying last August’s lockdown. This single document that DPC is fighting tooth and nail to keep secret is a document five and a half million Melbournians are entitled to see.

Daniel Andrews is an arrogant Premier who thinks he is above Victorians, thinks he can lock them down and not show them the single document held by his department to support his decision to impose a curfew.

The Liberal Nationals requested of DPC under Freedom of Information in September last year, “all documents involved with or that informed the decision by the State Government to impose a curfew, commencing 8pm on Sunday, 2 August 2020.”

DPC replied in November that “A search of department records identified one document relevant to the terms of your request” and “determined to refuse access in full to this document”.

VCAT will on Monday morning commence a directions hearing of the matter. The Liberal Nationals are adamant that Victorians have a right to see these documents and will fight tooth and nail to end Andrews’ secret state.

Why can’t the families subject to the curfew see the reasons behind their lockdown, and why can’t the small businesses that have had their livelihoods smashed be entitled to see Daniel Andrews’ reasons for imposing it?
