Daniel Andrews must support Victoria’s ignored events industry

The Andrews Labor Government must ensure that Business Support Fund support is made available for all Victorian small businesses and sole traders impacted by COVID restrictions including businesses in the events industry.

The Liberal Nationals support the events industry noting that small community events, business events and public events and festivals contribute to the unique character of Victorian life and are very significant employers.

The events industry must be supported by the State Government to rebuild and create jobs again.

A proactive plan for the industry is needed to ensure events are up and running as soon as it is safe to do so. This will require tens of millions of dollars of support that needs to be available as soon as the current lockdown is lifted.

Last week the Victorian Liberal Nationals called on the Andrews Labor Government to urgently provide support to all Victorian businesses hit by Stage 4 restrictions, including sole traders before even more lives and livelihoods are ruined.

Comments attributable to Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Small Business, Michael O’Brien:

“State Government packages made available for businesses have not been made available for sole traders, leaving them stranded.

“This lack of support from Daniel Andrews for sole traders and the events industry is cruel and wrong.”

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for the Arts, David Davis:

“The Liberal Nationals have called for a $50 million Creative Industries Restoration fund in addition to any support already announced by the State Government.

“The Andrews Labor Government must also provide funding support for the event industry hit so hard by the COVID-19 crisis.”
