Labor boasting a big spend, but offering our veterans less

Veterans Minister Shaun Leane owes Victoria’s veterans community an explanation on a $600,000 cut in the State Budget.

The Veterans budget has dropped to $9 million in 2020-21, from $9.6 million last year.

In a year that has been testing on all Victorians, demand for support within Victoria’s veteran community hasn’t lessened, particularly those with complex needs, who in many cases have not been able to have family visits.

In a big borrowing, big debt State Budget which will increase debt to a forecast $155 billion, the Andrews Labor Government is cutting funds supporting our veterans.

Labor’s priorities are all wrong when it’s prepared to recklessly throw funds at major projects that won’t create any new jobs for years, while deciding to trim back an already modest veterans’ budget.

This was a year when we should be seeing more spending, not less, on supports and programs for those who have served our country.
