The Liberal Nationals welcome reports today that the Ombudsman will launch an investigation into an appalling child protection data breach.
In this tragic case, a former youth worker used personal information about vulnerable children, that he should not have had access to, to track down, groom, and rape a 13 year old-boy.
Then, on two occasions, the Andrews Labor Government shamefully lied to watchdogs about it, covering up its own failures.
Two years ago, the government claimed it had contacted the families of all children whose details the rapist had accessed. That was a lie. Even now, Labor cannot confirm that all 43 children are safe, and have been contacted and offered support.
The victim’s family, and the families of all those other vulnerable children who the government placed at great risk, deserve the truth.
It is simply reprehensible that the Andrews Labor Government has lied to cover up its mistakes, and are guilty of having no plan to help keep our most vulnerable safe.
We wish the Ombudsman well in her investigation as Labor’s secret state cannot be allowed to continue.
