Secretive Labor refuses to come clean about foreign ownership deals

Just as Victorians are coming to grips with Dan Andrews’ dodgy Belt and Road Agreement with the Chinese Communist Government, there’s another secrecy concern hitting the Labor Government.

Labor have spent $1.3 billion on renewables since coming into office, but they won’t tell taxpayers where that money is going.

When asked for details of all companies who received funding from Labor under their various renewables schemes, the Energy Minister responded:

“It is not possible to provide an itemised list of the amount of government funding received by each renewable energy project, currently being built or operational in Victoria as this level of detail relates to information that is commercially sensitive.”

Victorians deserve to know where their money is going and whether the Andrews Labor Government is making dodgy deals with foreign-owned companies, prioritising them over Australian firms.

report from the independent analysis company, Rystad Energy, shows that only five of Australia’s top 20 renewables developers remain Australian-owned.

The Energy Minister must act transparently and answer three basic questions:

  • What are the names and locations of all renewables projects in Victoria currently receiving Victorian Government funding?
  • Which of these projects is being constructed or supported, in whole or part, by foreign-owned companies?
  • How much Victorian Government funding is each of these projects receiving individually?

Victorians should be concerned about the Labor Government’s ties to China. Daniel Andrews has made a dodgy Belt and Road deal with the Chinese Communist Party, which he refuses to rip up, despite fears it will give the Chinese Communist Party influence over the Andrews Government and the future of Victorians.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Energy and Renewables, Ryan Smith:

“Victorians deserve to know where their money is going and whether the Andrews Labor Government is making dodgy deals with foreign-owned companies.

“This lack of transparency around what deals have been done with foreign owned companies is an insult to the Victorian taxpayer whose money Daniel Andrews is using.”
