Time for WorkSafe to prosecute Andrews Government

The Liberal Nationals firmly believe that WorkSafe must take real action and prosecute members of the Andrews Labor Government and relevant agencies who were responsible for the hotel quarantine fiasco.

Last year’s hotel quarantine program led to the death of over 800 Victorians, forced Victorians into a prolonged stage four lockdown, 250,000 local jobs lost and shut down thousands of businesses across the state.

WorkSafe has been undertaking investigations into alleged breaches of Victoria’s occupational health and safety laws in hotel quarantine for months.  The time has come for WorkSafe to act and prosecute those members of the Andrews Government and its agencies responsible.

Given the fact that WorkSafe has now confirmed to the Liberal Nationals that it is conducting a further investigation into this year’s failed hotel quarantine program, Victorians deserve action from its OH&S regulator.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Workplace Safety, Nick Wakeling:

“Victorians deserve answers. Victorians deserve action.

“Those members of the Andrews Labor Government and its agencies responsible for this fiasco are not above the law and need to be prosecuted by WorkSafe.

“As we saw with the breaches in this year’s failed hotel quarantine program, WorkSafe inaction places the Victorian community directly at risk.

“If a private company caused the death of over 800 Victorians and shut down the state for months, the company’s directors would already be in the courts facing punishment.”
