Time to Open Our Schools

The Michael O’Brien-led Liberal Nationals team today announced the opportunity for Victorians everywhere to pledge their support to Open Our Schoolssafely for Term 4.

Open Our Schools asks parents, students and concerned community members to have their say as to why schools should reopen for Term 4.

The Liberal Nationals want primary and specialist schools across Melbourne to reopen for day one of Term 4 so that students can get back to learning for their future, reconnecting with friends, and to do so in a safe manner with COVID-safe school plans.

The Andrews Labor Government should also ensure that all Melbourne secondary school students should return to school Thursday 8 October, immediately following completion of the General Achievement Test (GAT).

This would bring Melbourne schools into line with regional Victoria and ensure all of our students have the best learning opportunities.

Due to the Andrews Labor Government’s botched hotel quarantine program and the resulting second wave of COVID-19, Victorian students have already lost the best part of six months of at-school learning and they don’t deserve to be left behind any longer.

Victorians have lost confidence in the Andrews Labor Government ability to govern our state and to deliver the best outcomes for Victorian students.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Education, Cindy McLeish:

“It’s not just parents, students and school staff that are concerned about the incredible challenges our school students are being forced to endure throughout the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to Daniel Andrews’ second wave.

“Victorians across the state are concerned about our students being left behind the other states.

“The Liberal Nationals are asking parents, concerned community members and students themselves to stand up and have their say, and pledge their support to Open Our Schools.

“If you think it is time for Daniel Andrews to get our students safely get back into the classroom, please, have your say, share your opinion and add your voice to OpenOurSchools.com.au
