The State of the States Economic Performance Report released today by CommSec shows that Victoria continues to go backwards compared to other Australian states.
According to the report, Victoria has fallen to third overall, trailing behind both Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory.
Victoria has also fallen from second to fifth in retail spending, and employment was down 5.8 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Victoria also suffered deteriorations in economic performance in equipment investment and dwelling commencements.
The report shows Victoria’s economy suffering due to the second wave of COVID-19, caused by the Andrews Government’s bungled hotel quarantine and inadequate contact tracing.
Comments attributable to Shadow Treasurer, Louise Staley:
“Another week and yet more bad news for Victorians looking for a job under Daniel Andrews’ restrictions.
“The State of the States Report shows that Victoria continues to fall behind other states, and this means that Victorians are suffering from the economic incompetence of the Andrews Labor Government.
“Under Daniel Andrews’ harsh restrictions the number of jobs in Victoria has been decimated.
“Daniel Andrews urgently needs to release a plan for economic recovery, so they can get back to work and back in business.”
