Victorians deserve answers over secret police investigation into private security firms

Today at PAEC it has been confirmed Victoria Police has launched an investigation into the private security companies contracted to manage Victoria’s botched hotel quarantine program.

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton has stated last week he approved an internal police investigation to review potential licence breaches and alleged criminal activity of the private security companies involved in this program.

This investigation comes at least six weeks after the serious issues with private security contractors were publicly known, including allegations of bribery, inappropriate conduct and fraudulent claiming of shifts worked.

With Victoria’s hotel quarantine failures triggering our devastating second wave, Daniel Andrews must now ensure there are no further delays and that the public is fully informed of the outcomes of this essential investigation.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Police, David Southwick:

“Every Victorian doing it tough in lockdown deserves answers over the botched hotel quarantine program and for those responsible to be held to account.

“The serious failures and alleged criminal behaviour within Daniel Andrews’ hotel quarantine program have been known for months. So why has this action taken so long?

“Daniel Andrews must now explain why this investigation has been kept from the public and why it has been so significantly delayed.”
