Violent offender scores three day holiday under Daniel Andrews

Reports today that a violent offender has been mistakenly released from prison is the latest failure on community safety by the Andrews Labor Government.

On Tuesday 26th May, an inmate on remand facing charges for serious violent offences including intentionally causing serious injury and unlawful assault, was set free by prison officers at Fulham Correctional Centre.

This botched release comes despite the offender attempting to inform officers they must have made a mistake, with the offender only being brought back into custody after handing himself over to authorities on Friday 29th – 3 days after his initial release.

This shocking incident is the latest in a long line of correctional blunders under Daniel Andrews and with violent offenders being mistakenly set free – it’s little wonder why under Labor, Victoria is running the most expensive, yet worst performing prison networks in the nation.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Corrections, David Southwick:

“It clear Victoria’s correctional system is in chaos when a violent offender facing trial is allowed to walk free from prison.

“Daniel Andrews must come clean and explain why victims and the community were kept in the dark for days after a violent offender was mistakenly released.

“With regular violence, drugs and now inmates allowed to walk free – it’s little wonder why under Labor, Victoria is running the most expensive, yet worst performing prison networks in the nation.”
